Program Description:

The ProgramStudents at Alicante

The Language and Culture program at the University of Alicante gives you the opportunity to take electives in Spanish, which are carefully designed to progressively advance your ability to communicate concepts and ideas related to university level academic work in areas such as Hispanic studies, art history, cinema, international management and political science. This program is designed for students at the intermediate level of Spanish language study. If you are interested in furthering your language skills and in learning about Spain you will find that this program provides an ideal option.

The Academics

You will earn 12-18 graded UConn credits per semester upon completion of this program.  The Language and Culture program at the University of Alicante is Students at Alicantedesigned for students who have completed two or three semesters of university level language instruction in Spanish and have achieved a high novice or low intermediate level of proficiency prior to participation. Students who successfully complete the Language and Culture program will have advanced approximately two semesters to a level equivalent to high intermediate or low advanced, depending on their level upon entry, their effort and attitude, and the complementary elective courses they choose.

In order to earn credit at UConn for courses completed on this program, individual courses must be approved by a designated UConn course evaluator and assigned a UConn course number. If the courses you intend to take are listed below or on this pop-up Spain: Alicante Course Equivalencies, then you do not have to get them approved again. If the courses you intend to take are not on this list, you will have to get them approved. Complete instructions for this process can be found here.

The Experience

Housing and all meals are included in the program fee. Students live in Spanish-speaking homes and all meals are taken in the home. Homestays are the best housing arrangement because of their practicality and contribution to the program's objectives of language and cultural immersion. Only one program participant is housed in each home. Housing is located in the Alicante metropolitan area with access to public transportation. All students take public transportation to the University.
